Everyone likes to know a little more about their doctor!
I spent my time growing up between small town Saskatchewan and the Fraser Valley in BC. Hockey was a big part of life and a big part of becoming a chiropractor, mostly because I liked to get injured a lot! I was always curious of the body and how it knows how it heal itself, but I was also keen on how to prevent injuries and perform at my best. Chiropractic was a natural fit for these reasons.
I was fortunate enough to play hockey at the university level, however “the dream” had to end sometime and it was off to Chiropractic school. I thank my wife Lisa for always wanting to visit Australia, and it was because of her that I ended up enrolled at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. Here we had five of the best years of our lives, and after graduation in 2004 I took some time to work as a locum doctor and travel. I enjoyed practicing in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and the UK.
After a year of travel, settling down was in order and we chose to live in Europe instead of returning home. After a year in Ireland and two years in Belfast, Northern Ireland, we decided we missed the Canadian way of life and returned to the west coast where I currently practice in both Abbotsford and Chilliwack in the Fraser Valley.
I employ a variety of techniques in my practice including manual and activator instrument adjustments, myofascial active release, as well as rehabilitative exercises and dietary advice. I am one of only a few certified chiropractic wellness practitioners in Canada, allowing me a greater understanding of lifestyle related conditions and how to best treat then with chiropractic, diet, exercise and emotional wellness.
Pediatric care is a big part of my practice as I am also currently one of one a few doctors in North America currently enrolled in a Masters degree in Chiropractic Pediatrics.
The choice to leave one of the busiest practices in the Fraser Valley and relocate my family to Castlegar was an easy one to make. After living overseas for eight years, I loved to see the Vancouver 2010 license plates that say “The Best Place on Earth”. Finding that place that was always a vision for me and my wife Lisa and when it came to a setting that fit the bill, I always considered the Kootenays for obvious reasons. However, the biggest reason to find that place came with the arrival of our son David Jr., aka ‘Tiger’, in July of 2010. It is amazing how the experience changes your priorities in life. So when the opportunity came up with a chiropractic practice in Castlegar, we did our best to make it happen. Now with the opportunity to carry on the wonderful practice of Dr Salmon, we know we made the right decision.
